3 Things You Need To Accomplish Your 2020 Targets!
Did you know that MOST people set resolutions at the beginning of the year, and somewhere between January 15th and February 15th their resolutions are nowhere to be found. I’m here for you to be one of those weird ones; I’m here for you to get away from the rest of the pack. Maybe some of your friends or co-workers think it’s “childish” or “not mature” to stick to your plan. Guess what, if you stick to a plan, and other people don’t, you WILL be faced with significant peer pressure from others around you because they weren’t disciplined enough to achieve theirs. That’s the kind of world we live in today. Here are three things that you will need to accomplish your 2020 targets!
That’s right, I’m renaming resolution: to target. Resolution, I think is very ordinary and not specific enough for my liking. Being specific is the first step in achieving your 2020 targets. If you say “ I want to hit better this year” or “I want to get stronger this year”. I want you to take that thinking to the next level. How are you going to hit better? Set a target for your batting average, set a target for doubles, home runs. That is being specific.
Have you ever tried to do a huge project on your own? Have you ever tried to win a baseball or basketball game by yourself? It’s difficult isn’t it? The next step in achieving your 2020 targets is getting a team of supportive people around you. These are called accountability partners. Again, the targets you set for yourself are not short term targets you are going to achieve in two weeks. They are targets that take long term discipline and effort on a daily, weekly, monthly basis. You need someone to help you along the way, or to kick your butt whenever you are feeling undisciplined.
Step #3 is building a strategy. Underneath of the targets that you set, I want you to write down three ways you are going to achieve those targets. Maybe it’s getting more swings in off of the tee each day. Or adding an extra training day to your routine. Maybe one of your targets is just learning the game better. Maybe you are a really talented player but just need more time studying the game. These are called “action items”. Action items will turn your target into disciplined day to day items that will help guide you and pave your path to your target.
So three things we need for 2020. We need to set specific targets. We need to have accountability partners. And we need to build a strategy for achieving our targets. If you do these three things from January 1 to December 31, I guarantee your life will be better than it was in 2020.
