5 Essentials As You Enter the Baseball/Softball Offseason

 

The offseason is one of the most important parts of a baseball and softball player’s season.

Unfortunately, many athletes miss out on all the benefits because they underestimate the importance and don’t enter into it with a plan.

Here are 5 Essentials for any Baseball or Softball players offseason.

1️⃣ REASSESS and REFLECT -

You just got out of a long season and you need to take take to reflect on how it went.

  • How did you do?

  • Did you accomplish the goals you set?

  • What went well?

  • What do you want or need to improve?

  • How important is it to improve in those areas?

  • Why is it important to you?

Trying to make plans for what you are doing next without reflecting on how it went is a sure fire way of setting yourself up for disaster. Unfortunately, this is how most athletes (and adults) approach their goals and life. They wing it and “hope” that what they are doing is the right thing and will work for where they are trying to go.

Reflect and adjust.

2️⃣ REENGAGE - you reengage by creating a vision and a set of goals for the upcoming offseason.

  • What will you accomplish?

  • What is important they gets done?

  • What is your schedule?

  • How will you grow physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually?

    If you don’t have a clear vision of where you are going, you WILL underperform and not grow like you can. We must begin the process of defining where we are going, and why we are going there. Having a concrete vision will make it easier to stay focused when the challenges undoubtedly will come.

3️⃣ SURROUNDINGS - choose the people and environment that is going to set you up for success. The places and people that will let you settle for lesss than your best isn’t the place. Surround yourself with others and an environment that will challenge you to be your best and show up as your best future self.

This means your friends.
This means your training environment.
This means your music choices.
This means whatever is being poured into you better be helping you get where you are wanting to go. They say “what fills, spills…”

When life shakes you up, you are going to see what you have been filled with. Be intentional with what is going in on the inside.

4️⃣ REMOVE THE EXCUSES - what are the biggest excuses that you allow yourself to get away with?

  • Too tired?

  • Don’t know?

  • Too sore?

  • Not motivated?

What if you never let yourself use that again? What if you were to remove that excuse from your vocabulary? What would happen to your life? Typically we have a couple “go-to” excuses that we have deemed okay for us to use.

If you want to make this offseason your best… it’s going to require getting the mental side of your game right as well.

5️⃣ GET AFTER IT - the fun part! It’s time to train and work diligently toward your goals. You won’t always feel like it, but that doesn’t matter. You will do it anyways because you have clarity on why it is so important to you. You have a group that will push you and hold you accountable.

And most of all… it’s because you said you would and you are true to your word!

If you haven’t noticed… this was the first time we talked about anything physical. That’s because it is going to take the mental side being locked down to be able to perform at your best. Often times, it isn’t the physical that separates two great athletes… it is what is going on between the ears.

Plenty of people can throw 95+ mph now! But what happens between the ears is what allows one to dominate a game and the other to get pulled in the first inning.

6️⃣ AND THEN SOME - just like it says… always do a little extra. We said 5 essentials, but it’s important that you learn to always go a little beyond. The dreams you have will require more than you think.

So it is essential that you give more than you think you need to, all the time.

How can you give a little bit more?
Where are you settling for “good enough"?

Let’s get in the habit of always giving just a little bit more!

BOOM! There you have it! The 5 essentials as you head into your baseball/softball offseason!

Now we know… Not everyone does this. Most people skip right to number 5 and go from there…

But that is why most people just get average results and fall short of what their dreams really are.
