12 Don't Series - Part 2

Coach Joey is bringing us the next chunk of his 12 Don't Series

======================================================

The Twelve “Don’t” Series (4-6)

What’s going on guys! I am here today to bring you the next three “don’ts” that will help you better your life in every possible way. You see everyone gets too focused on what they need to “do”; they make their “to do” list, they tell themselves “I need to do this, and do that, and do this, and do that”. They forget about all those things they need to “not” do to get their life on track to get them to where they want to be. Take these next three “don’ts” to heart and see if they apply to you:

1.      Don’t focus on the things you can’t control

Everyone has the 1% and the 99%. The 1% being what you CAN control and the 99% being the stuff you CANNOT control. I like to compare the 99% as the black hole. You become trapped for a lifetime in the 99% if you do not do something about it. Now what can be considered the 99%? Good question. The main scenario you see is when people blame others for their failures. For example they didn’t make the baseball team because the coach didn’t like them, or the teacher failed them because he/she didn’t like them. If you shift your focus into the 1%, you are only going to worry about what you can control as a human being. For example you are going to prepare yourself for the situation at hand. If you have baseball tryouts, you need to work all off season long to make that roster. Even if the coach doesn’t like you in particular, you are going to prepare and force him to put you on the roster. If you have an upcoming exam, PREPARE for it. You are blaming other factors whenever it was YOU all along. Live the 1%.

2.      Don’t dwell on the past
“You can’t start the next chapter of your life, if you keep re-reading the last one.”

What a very powerful message, I want you to do me a favor and re-read that quote. Do not just “read” it. I want you to take it to your heart. Listen guys I know it is not easy to forget the past, as a matter of fact, I don’t want you to forget the past. Because it was those situations that have molded you into what you are today. Good or bad. I know everyone only wants good things to happen to them but guess what, we don’t live in a perfect world. There is going to be some pain, and some heart ache, and some suffering. But guess what, life continues! It does not stop for anything or any situation. I want you to focus all of your energy not fighting the old, but fighting the new battles. Because you can dig yourself out that hole or funk you are in! As the great Eric Thomas says “It’s not success without a little bit of pain.”

3.      Don’t fear taking calculated risks
Fear
- an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat

Fear can be the ultimate paralyzer to your life. I know each and every one of you has a dream of some kind for yourself. But here is my question to you, what are you going to do to get there? What are you willing to do or sacrifice to get there? Nothing in this world is going to be handed to you, NOTHING. It is going to be a little scary getting where you want to be. Maybe your fear is school, or speaking, or starting a business, playing a sport. Whatever it may be you need to look your fear in the eye and face it! Do not go through life doing “just enough”, do not set your ceiling to low. Limiting yourself is the real crime because you will never get to where you want to be by doing just enough. You will be sitting in the exact same place next year as you are today. Anytime that something seems scary or difficult, I always remember how many times it took to make the light bulb. Thomas Edison failed over and over and over again but each failure was an opportunity to know what doesn’t work.

Thank you everyone for reading. I am going to keep these posts coming! “Don’t” Series (7-9) coming next! Coach Ryan, myself, and Coach Tyler are going to keep bringing it each and every day to serve you guys! Wake up and make an impact. God Bless.
